Lannaya Drum and Dance @ Laura's

Enjoy a different performance at Laura's this summer, Wednesdays through July 19th!

“The Rhythm and Movement of West Africa" is to spark attendee's awareness and interest in the arts achieved through performances. The program features energetic West African dances performed to live drumming. 

 Attendees will: 

  • See and hear traditional instruments from Guinea (West Africa).
  • See traditional costumed dances. 
  • Learn a song(s). 
  • Be exposed to cultural history and legacy of African Diasporic art forms.
  • Be invited onstage to learn and perform traditional dance steps.

Recommended for ages 3 & up.

Lannaya’s mission is to expose and educate audiences to authentic and progressive interpretations of the drum and dance of the African Diaspora. Since formation in 2000, Lannaya has been committed to preserving the vibrant cultural traditions of West Africa through workshops and performances in festivals, public concerts, parties, school assemblies/shows, flashmobs, receptions, and special events. In the Su Su language of Guinea, Lannaya means “confidence.” It’s what the ensemble seeks to express in its work and instill in audiences through its performances.
